  • Question

  • Below is the log that recorded when the update failed.  I am stumped - almost every line in the log speaks of error or a some kind of failure.  Any ideas?

  • Hi Matt,

Please try to download and install this update manually. If issue persists, it means that the issue is not caused by WSUS.

First, please disable the antivirus softeware temporary for test.

Second, please run sfc /scannow to check if any system file was corrupt.

Third, please try to reset the windows update component.

For detailed information about how to reset the windows update component, please refer to the link below:

    Best Regards.

  • Hi Matt,

I tested this update in my lab server. It is installed correctly.

I compare my log with yours, then I found that issue occurs at "12.203: Starting process:  C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\ToGac.exe C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\System.Web.dll
    12.594:  Return Code = 1 "

Please try to use the process monitor to check what's the last operation of ToGac.exe before it returns 1.

To download process monitor, please click the link below:

You stated I need to check "what's the last operation of ToGac.exe before it returns 1."  I'm not quite sure what this means.  I have opened up the Task Manager > Process but am unable to locate what you ask.

could it be related to this?

System.Web.Mobile.dll Removed from Root Web Configuration File

In previous versions of ASP.NET, a reference to the System.Web.Mobile.dll assembly was included in the root Web.config file in the assemblies section under . In order to improve performance, the reference to this assembly was removed.

The System.Web.Mobile.dll assembly is included in ASP.NET 4, but it is deprecated. If you want to use types from the System.Web.Mobile.dll assembly, add a reference to this assembly to either the root Web.config file or to an application Web.config file. For example, if you want to use any of the (deprecated) ASP.NET mobile controls, you must add a reference to the System.Web.Mobile.dll assembly to the Web.config file.

  • Hi,

    Sorry for the delay.

    >>could it be related to this?

I'm not familiar with how exactly .Net Framework works.

According to the log you captured, this issue should be related to these two files.

You may try the MSDN forum.

    Best Regards.

  • Manual installation results with the same error. SFC keeps asking for a Windows CD I do not have. I was unable to complete that scan. The server does not have access to the internet. I was unable to use the link to reset the Windows Update component.
