  • Is it happening with more than one user in your exchange environment.

Seems like a client issue to me. Probably his ost file is getting corrupted frequently.

I would suggest you to turn off the cache mode and check wheater email reappers on outlook client.

Check for any event ID on client system for this type of behaviour.

Go thorugh below links which discuss the same dilemma.

  • saw those. one of the links is completely opposite.

    no filters and no rules.

I will say that each time the email went missing is the same time. so the user logs off at 430 PM and then logs back in at home later that night, see's the messages and what not but the next morning, the messages are not in the inbox and will not download.

only user as far as I know. OST file should not be corrupted three times in two weeks. its pretty rare for an OST file to become corrupted. at least in my experience.

    Hello,

If the issue only happens to one specific user. You may troubleshoot the issue from the client side by running Windows in Clean Boot mode or run the Outlook in Outlook’s safe mode and see if it works.

    Thanks,

    Simon

  • what woul dbe the idea behind safe clean boot mode? Does that fix the issue or just a work around for that on time. recreating the OST is a work around. who knows maybe it is getting corrupt - but why so much?

    Hello,

Since the issue does not occur after rebuilding the Outlook profile, I suspect something on the client may keep corrupting it.

Clean Boot mode of Windows can narrow down the causes. Please give it a try and let us know the result. Hope it works.

    Thanks,

    Simon

  • not really a viable option since the this problem occurs sporadically.

  • so I finally have the PC in  my hands. there is an event id logged in app log

    source: ESENT

Event ID: 300: Windows (4584) Windows: The database engine is initiating recovery steps.

It does recover but I'm wondering if this search engine isnt corrupting the OST.
