WSS 3.0 - SQL Server Session State RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

How do I enable session state on SQL Server in WSS 3.0.
    1) Is SQL Server Session State management supported on WSS.
    2) Can we use the WSS Content DB for storing the session state values.

  • Are you talking about the Basic or the Advanced installation of WSS 3.0 - i.e are you asking about the Windows Internal Database or full SQL Server 2005 ?  (or even SQL Server 2008 - there are an awful lot of SQL Servers about)

  • I have installed complete WSS install with SQL Server 2005 (enterprise edition).

In the sharepoint website - I want to store some details on User's session. So that I can use this information on different web parts in the same / different pages. As far as I know - any ASP.NET application supports three modes of saving the session values - InProc, ASP State Service and SQL Server. I believe the same would be true with WSS sites as well.

I want to know how to
    1) Setup WSS site to use SQL Server mode for storing session values.
    2) Is there any other ways of managing session values in WSS.

Please let me know if you need more clarifications on my issue.
