Improving Performance of DNS Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We are migrating our DNS servers form Linux to Windows server 2012,

we would like to somehow compare the performance of the new servers to the old servers.

I have used “resperf” from Nominum. When I run the stress-test somehow the Linux server shows better results in Maximum throughput, amount of lost-queries and latency.

I would like to know how I can improve the performance of my Windows server. Which recommendations are exist for improving the performance through adding more hardware resources.

At the moment we have VMware virtual platform with CPU @2.30GHz, 1 core,1 logical processor,4GB RAM,4,69 virtual memory.

Moreover I would like to know if there is any difference on setting up the hardware for Authoritative only DNS Servers(advertiser) and Caching servers (resolvers).

I mean, should any of them have better resources?

I would really appreciate it if you guide me in this matter.
