  • Hi,

Ok, forgive the obvious question, what does [windir]\temp\msdpm*.log say?

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

[windir] is normally c:\windows ... so have a look in c:\windows\temp for a file starting msdpm witha .log file extension.

    Thanks,

    John

  • Generally from my minor experience, DPM does not like to be installed on a server with any other software running on it. It was recommended to myself and my team to install DPM on a fresh copy of Windows 2008 R2. We ran into this same issue with the attempt to install it on our test system which housed several test applications.

I do not recall the error message we received, but it wasn't the same you have.

    Good Luck!

  • I've had this issue in the past when the server was hardened.

That means that the firewall does difficult. Even if you see that the firewall is "off" it still can be the problem (It suprised me the first time aswell :-))

Could you try the following steps:

      • Logon to the target machine (from console – remote management card etc)
      • Copy the installation files to a local temp directory
      • Net stop mpssvc (will stop windows firewall services\will stop network
        connections)
      • run the installation (for x64): DPMAgentInstaller_KB959605_AMD64.exe
        dpmservername.fqdn
      • Reboot the target server
      • Make a firewall rule that allows the application DPMRA to communicate(all
        profiles)
      • On the DPM server, from the DPM Management Shell prompt, type
        Attach-ProductionServer.ps1.    <dpm><production><user><password><domain></domain></password></user></production></dpm>
