Sharepoint 2007 - Deleting Users via Batch RRS feed

  • Question

  • Last spring I read an article that warned against deleting users via batch job. The article saidthat it was not recommended by Microsoft and that Microsoft did not support this type of activity. Am I corrct in this statement?  I am unable to find this article again. Can you either give me a link to a simiar article or tell me what the offical recommendation is?

    Thanks,

    Sandy

  • Doing anything directly against the SharePoint databases is a bad idea.

Routines that use the SharePoint API are however OK.

So it's probably so that the (not recommended) routine you have read about used SQL Server techniques to remove the users rather than using the SP API.

  • Hi sjarmy,

First I must to say I agree with Mike said above, you should be careful to do this. if you really want to do this, I suggest you back up your data first.

In Central Administration, it seems that it’s not possible to delete the whole list of profile or do any batch job to delete more than one at the time. But you can do this through PowerShell.

You can check the following article to get more information about this:

    Hope this could help you.

    Regards.
