  • Hello,

I have a HP Pavilion DV7 laptop running Windows Vista Business x64. After I leave my computer untouched for a long period (>10 min), I cannot start any new application, the old applications loose their settings, the system cannot stop and I have to turn off its power.

After doing some research I found out in the Event Viewer to 1530 Event that says. After this nothing gets written in the event log.

Do you know a solution for this problem? It is really annoying to reset my laptop after a few minutes of inactivity.

Must mention that while I am working there is no problem.

  • Hi Victor,

    Thank you for posting here.

For the Event ID 1530, I would like to share the following with you:

Event ID: 1530 may be logged in the Application log on a Windows Vista-based client computer

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947238

With regard to the issue that Windows Vista is not responding after leaving the computer untouched, please try the following:

    1.    Boot the system to Safe Mode and see if the issue persists.

    2.    Please perform a Clean Boot to check the issue.

    Clean boot

    =================

    1)   Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Search box, and then press Enter.

Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window.

    2)   Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).

    3)   Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".

Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK.

NOTE: we can go back to normal boot by running msconfig again and checking on Normal Startup in the General tab.

In the Clean Boot Environment, the third party services and applications are disabled, please check if the issue reoccurs at this time.

If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to one application or service we have disabled. You may use the MSCONFIG tool again to re-enable the disabled item one by one to find out the culprit.

From your second post, I noticed the message "c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop refers to a location that is unavailable.”; please also perform the following to see if it works:

    1.    Go to %userprofile%. (Click the "Start" menu, type "%userprofile%" in the Search Bar and Press Enter.)

    2.    Right-click on the Desktop folder and select Properties.

    3.    Switch to Location tab and click the “Restore Default” button.

    4.    Reboot the computer and check the result.

    Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • It's me again. I found some more info about the problem:

I can start applications, after the problem described in the previous post appears, through task manager. (New task) but when the open file dialog appears it says:

"c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop refers to a location that is unavailable."

I can browse the disk, I can do whatever I want but the Desktop is unavailable. Also, no shortcut from start menu works.

Found on Google that Norton Antivirus causes this problem but I have AVG Free :(

Can someone give a solution for this problem?

    Regards,
    Victor

  • My problem is somewhat similar to the second part of this post. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Windows Vista Home Premium (Build 6002: Service Pack 2):

"I can browse the disk, I can do whatever I want but the Desktop is unavailable. Also, no shortcut from start menu works." The only difference is that I can't browse the disk.

I have followed the steps you outlined above by logging into Safe Mode and disabling in msconfig. Started up the computer in Normal mode/with the items disabled. 1) Computer started up I had access to the Startup Menu for about 30 secs. Then I lost access to the startup menu (ie. circular icon appeard and unable to access any programs). Restarted computer in Safe mode... booted in Safe mode.

    2) Booted up in Normal mode a second time. I was able to access msconfig. I went through the steps outlined - Normal Startup in the General tab. - clicked ok. Then recieved "not responding" on the box. Screen blacked out and received "Failure - Security Options" error (ie. "Logon process has failed to create the secuirty options dialog."). Recieved "restart prompt".

    3) Restarted Computer. Able to access Startup Menu for about 30 secs, but cannot access any programs. Then lost all access to desktop.

  • Hello Victor,

I have the exact problem. Once I lock the screen and leave it for a period [ Maybe 10 min ] as you mentioned, I don't have anything working. Shortcuts doesn't respond. No 'My Documents',  MS Outlook says weird errors like 'Cannot find path', 'Outlook:Inbox' not found etc. Once you logoff and login back again, it works. That's how I related it to the registry being unloaded and the so called Event 1530 is logged everytime this happened. Also, I cannot logoff using regular menu, have to Ctrl+Alt+Del and then choose logoff.

None of the applications listed in the Event 1530 really helped [ But the inactivity period seems to have extended, when I closed MS Outlook before I leave the desk ].

But as Nicholas mentioned, I tried disabling a bunch of startup items which are mostly software updater and application preload. For me it was

    1. Adobe updater / Acrobat reader.

    2. RealPlayer updater.

    3. Java updater.

    4. Skype.

    5. Google updater / GTalk.

Now, I don't have that problem anymore ( atleast for the period I usually leave my PC locked ). Not sure stopping which of the above really helped, but anyway I don't need any of them.
