  • Question

  • Easy Question.  Can you set up multiple internet facing client management sites in different locations?  I know you can only have one Internet Update Point.

    Thanks!

  • If I recall correctly you can have only 1 internet MP since this is the same internet based setup that was in 2007.

You can now have multiple Internet management points in a primary site, although you can only specify one with the CCMHOSTNAME property. However, this supports fault tolerance rather than load balancing. From What's New in Configuration Manager, under the Sites and Hierarchies section, Site System Roles:

You can also have more than one Internet-based management point in a primary site, although you can specify only one when you configure clients for Internet-based client management. When Internet-based clients communicate with the specified Internet-based management point, they will be given a list of all the Internet-based management points in the site and then select one.

  • Thank you for the reply.  Do you happen to know if any companies who Internet MP's behind a load balancer?

  • No, I know no one that is using a load balancer for internet based MP.  Do you expect to have more than 25k machines at a time on the internet hitting that primary?  We have over 100k machines with 2 primarys (2 internet based MPs).  We never saw a problem with loads.
