  • Question

  • Hi

I want to use the netdom for renaming the computer. By default the netdom is not available in windows 7

It's required to install the RSAT

Is there  way to used the netdom without installing the RSAT

My I know what is the files that I need copy from the workstation where installed  the RSAT and copy only the files related to netdom component

    Please advise

  • Hi,

You have to install the latest version of the Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) to add netdom to your computer running Windows 7.

Have you read this article before? I think it may be helpful to your issue.

  • I realize this may be a moot point for the original poster but all you need to do is copy two files from your local DC. Installing RSAT seems like a huge waste of time if all you wanna do is join machines to a domain.

BTW, those to files are on your DC here:

    C:\Windows\System32\netdom.exe

    C:\Windows\System32\en-US\netdom.exe.mui

On the client machines they go in the exact same directory you got them from (except on they go on your client machines).

Hope this helps someone from having to needlessly install RSAT.
