FTP Uncataloged Dataset from z/OS to Windows 8.1

    Question

  • Doing an FTP on a Windows 8.1 PC to GET an uncatalogued dataset from a mainframe z/OS system, how do I specify the VOLUME serial number (VOLID) for the dataset?

  • Since I don't know much about the FTP uncataloged dataset, I searched online and found:

"The volume serial numbers must appear in the same order in which they were originally encountered (in DD statements within the input stream) when the data set was created. Multiple serial numbers should be separated with commas.

Seqno is valid only for data sets which reside on tape. This value is meaningful for only the first volume serial. The maximum value that you can code in z/OS V1R5 or later is 65535. If you expect to use this catalog entry on an earlier level of the system than that, do not code a value that exceeds 9999. "

    Hope it helps:
