MOSS 2007 and IIS conflict RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've installed a complete version of MOSS 2007 on our (Intranet) web server. All of the websites use port 443. While configuring MOSS and created the necessary support sites for the SSP, I made sure to assign no conflicting port numbers. Now however, I attempted to create the actual web app which needs to run on the the SSL port 443 I get a conflict with the Default Web Site. I used a host header for this app, the DNS information is set to resolve and all that.

I suspected that this would be a common issue but my searches revealed not much useful information. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Default IIS behavior, and self signed certs used for port 443, don't let you split the same certificate across multiple port 443 IIS apps - to do this, yo uneed to purchase a wildcard certificate to identify all the URLs on a server.  If the cert is mapped to a specific URL, that's the only URL that can use port 443.

You might want to remove port 443 from the default web site and shutdown the site, if you're not using it.  Good luck!

  • Hi Chris,

Thanks for you reply. If I understand you  correctly, I don't want to use the cert on multiple ports. I just want the SharePoint app and my default website use the same port 443. I need to both to run.

  • Hi Ej,

You have two choices when using Host Headers, IIS, SSL 1. Use a Seperate IP Address for each IIS WebSite, 2. As Chris advised purchase a WildCard Cert
