Unable to decrypt files after successfully importing certificates back up! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear community,

This is getting me a hard time since I do not have clear what I am missing.

    1. I encrypted a folder with three files in it
    2. I created a certificate back up (.ptx) and stored in an external HDD
    3. I copied the encrypted folder to the same external HDD
    4. I completely restored Windows 10 with a clean installation
    5. I have Installed the .ptx file, running as an administrator and stored the certificate in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities
    6. Import is successful

I've not been able to open or move my folder/files. I don't understand what I'm missing or what's wrong.

    Would you please help me?

Thank you very much in advance!

  • It seems that the private key was not associate during the export which is why you cannot decrypt your file. If such, the only way to recover access is using your recovery key agent (Assuming that this is an enterprise managed PC). If you do not have this key then I do not see a way to recovery your data.
