Word 2007 crashes during autosave and when saving as .DOC RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a problem with Microsoft Word 2007. It crashes every time during autosave. It also crashes when I try to save a file as .DOC (even an empty new file). When I save it as any other file type it's fine.

I have already tried repairing the office installation, reinstalling the whole suite (and then installing SP3 and all latest patches again), auto fix it from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822005/en-us and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541/en-us, changing the autosave file location, using different windows account. None of these helped. I wouldn't like to work with autosave switched off.

I am using Windows 7 Professional SP1 and Office 2007 Professional 12.0.6683.5002 with SP3 on HP EliteBook 8470w.

  • Hi,

Did you try to start Word in safe mode and save it? If it works fine, we need to check the Word add-ins.

If the issue still exists, please try to start Windows 7 in clean boot to test. The other programs may be conflict.

Following this, if it does not worked fine, please try to disable the antivirus software to test.

Here is a similar issue, we could refer to:

If the issue is not resolved, please upload the event log, I’ll do deeply research.

  • Hi,

Sorry for my reply delay. As the log, the wwlib.dll was crashed the Word 2010. I recommend you try to delete the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data manually and restart Word again to test. Follow the KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541/en-us which you mentioned above.

Note: backup the registry key before you modified.

If the issue still exists, please try to start word by using "Click Start>Run and type in winword /a"

When you use the /a switch to start Word, the switch prevents add-ins and global templates, including the Normal.dot template, from being loaded automatically. The /a switch also locks the setting files. The setting files cannot be read or modified when you use this switch.

Then, we also could try to repair Office 2010 to test.
