SCSI Controller

  • HI,

Can anybody explain what is the difference between adding multiple VHDX under a single SCSI Controller and creating a new SCSI Controller and then adding a VHDX. Is there any performance difference?

  • Is there a performance difference?  Without knowing the IO characteristics of the application(s) you are going to run in the VM, it is impossible to provide a definitive answer.

By placing a second SCSI controller into the VM you can have two SCSI controllers processing SCSI commands simultaneously.  Whether or not this is going to give a noticeable difference in performance is questionable.  For most environments, it is not likely to provide any noticeable difference.  If you are performing maximum IOs to two VHDs, you might be able to measure a difference.

A single SCSI controller can easily manage multiple disks.  It comes down to how many SCSI commands have to be executed to maybe benefit from a second (third/fourth) SCSI controller.

It is very simple for you to test in your environment.
