creating a site from site template RRS feed

  • hi,

    I have to create 0 similar sub sites , so I create a site with basic structure and saved it as site template, now it is in site  template galary,

    can anyone please tell me how to create a site from a site template.

  • You need to install the template using the following command

    stsadm –o  addtemplate

    After  you case the site as template ,the template is already in site template gallery .You can create a site using the template in two ways:

    1.       In the user interface ,choose Site Actions>Create>Sites and workspaces. You can see the template  under custom tab in the select a template field.

    2.       You can also create a site using stsadm.exe .Change the path to  C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN in the command  prompt  .Type in this command:

    stsadm.exe –o createweb  –url  <the url name >  -sitetemplate <the template name.stp>
