WSUS 1607 update tried everything I can think of still won't update. RRS feed

  • Question

  • WSUS Server windows 2012 6.3.96

    I've installed all the patches installed the registry path, my wsus doesn't use SSL (not that i know of)

    The 1607 updates have been selected and downloaded on the WSUS server  (. the ESD mime type has been set.

    in my WSUS update log I can see the computers that "need" the 1607 update, i read through the update logs of a few clients, nothing has "failed" or "fatal"

    I'm also confused as to which I products to check currently I have

    Windows 10 Anniversary Update and Later Servicing Drivers checked

    but I also see

    Windows 10 Anniversary Update Server and Later Servicing Drivers (SERVER) this is not checked do i check this?

    I've run out of options, why will the clients not download the 1607 update from the server? the server claims the update is needed yet when i run a manual windows update, it says no updates needed?

    Any suggestions?

  • Hi Original_Nambi,

    1. Ensure KB3095113 and KB3159706 installed prior to sync and download upgrade 1607;

    2. On clients, we may add registry key "AllowOSUpgrade=1" to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\OSUpgrade.

    Check if after adding the registry key could work.

    Anne

  • Thank You for the suggestions

    KB3095113 and KB3159706

    were already installed on my WSUS server. (2012)

    on the clients i manually added this into ONE of the clients.

    "AllowOSUpgrade=1" to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\OSUpgrade.

    is there a way to do this via GPO?  I signed in with regedit and added this key since it didn't exist.

    Still no update,

    Problem is I really don't know how to interpret the win10 update log. i can't decipher which update is the 1607 and if its downloading / failing etc.

    Shoudl 1607 install automatically or do I need to go into settings then updates for this wsus to take?

    Been struggling with this since, it was released still nothing.

    Also do I need

    Windows 10 Anniversary Update and Later Servicing Drivers checked

    or

    Windows 10 Anniversary Update Server and Later Servicing Drivers (SERVER)

    Thanks

  • Hi Original_Nambi,

    Based on the pervious experience to upgrade to 1607, after downloading the upgrade file into WSUS server, and WSUS clients report as needing the upgrade, then check update on client side, then the upgrade file can be downloaded, we do not need to do additional steps to enable the download.

    As a workaround, if you still unable to enable clients upgrade to 1607 from WSUS server, you may use ISO to upgrade to clients.

    Besides, after upgrading to 1607, please install the latest updates for 1607, if not, they may meet issue to download later updates from WSUS server:

  • None of the advice worked. I don't understand why MS can't even use their own system to upgrade their own software, I've applied all patches, performed manual registry entries, manually changed the mime type in IIS on the WSUS, selected the products for download.  I've downloaded them to the WSUS server.   Clients show that they "need" these upgrades

    Windows update log on the client (win 10)  is like reading a foreign language.   Provides me with little to no guidance on to what is wrong, I don't' see anything about failed updates in it.  I can't even pin point which update is the upgrade because it's not clearly labeled.

    The only way I can get the clients to take on the update is to manually log into each client and run the iso file.  FAR from a practical solution when you have over an abundance of clients to do this to.
