2 DataSources System.Performance.DataProvider in one Monitor/Rule. Is it possible? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need to raise alert if Windows PerfCounter1>0,2*PerfCounter2.
I wonder if it possible somehow create complex DataSource based on 2 other datasources, and then somehow apply my filter(x>0,2*y)

  • Math operations are being looked at for the vNext version of Operations Manager..

  • The only way that I can think to accomplish this would be to create a timed script monitor that uses a script to query the values with WMI and does the comparison.   If you wanted, I could assist in writing this script.

  • thank for reply, i have working script. i thought it would be possible to achieve the same result using standard DataSources.

  • You could use two data sources (Performance collection) and a condition detection to compare two performance counters on the same agent.  But I don't think Operations Manager 2007 R2 has a way to a perform the math calculation you desire.  So you are probably best off using a script to do your comparison.

  • I think it's a good point for implementing this possibility in Scom vNext.

  • I agree, I'd love to see a modified Expression Filter that can perform mathematical and string evaluations.

  • Hi, Halsey. I want to do a similar work as P.D.. Is there math operations on SCOM 2007R2 Authoring Console? Or in SCOM 2012?

    Thank you, very much~

  • Hi, P.D. I am working on a similar situation. I use SCOM 2007 r2 Authoring Console to create Module types. But it does not work well. I can not use two Data sources as previouse modules of a probe actions. Because my performance counter data source is  windows azure role instance performance counter collection simple data source, I have no idea how I can get performance counter data by script. Can you give me some ideas? Thank you very much.
