How to assign one user access to two different groups?

    Question

  • I have a user that belongs to Chemistry group. He now needs access to the folder that is assigned only to IT group. I need to know how to provide access to IT group without having to modify his current access to chemistry group.

Moreover, the folder in IT group is a redirect and I am not able to find the actual folder.

Do I need to give access at the folder level or at the group level in active directory?

    Regards,

    Nasir

  • Hi Nasir,

Is it only for this one user? If yes, we can directly give the user access to the folder. If we add the user to IT group, the user will automatically gain all permissions which have been assigned to the group, which may bring security concerns.

  • Hi Frank

Thanks for your feedback. The folder is a redirect. Is there a quick way to find the actual location.

What is a "redirect" in your terms?
