Currently the Farm has two service applications for Project services.
Make the newly created service application as default, so that you will be able to resolve the "unexpected error".
Application management --> Configure service application associations --Click on the Default
Click on set as Default on the newly created service application.
Check the PWA status

Hello TheBegineer
When you provisioned Project server, it created the PWA site. Did that complete successfully? If not, you will need to complete this before accessing the PWA.

Hi, thanks for your reply!
yea, it completed successfully.
i created another project web app (out of th default pwa website). and it's working fine.
http://machinename/myprojects/default.aspx.
I removed the default pwa website.
Now i need to create another project web app.
when i go to manage-service applications --> project server service application. i find one project web app with provisioned status.
when i click create project web app and proceed; i get the error:
The Project Web App Site path is invalid. Correct path and try again

What is the PWA web site you selected? Is that avaialble?
What is the PWA URL you typed?
As per the previous response, you removed the default pwa website, so you are receiving this error message.
The actual process is, delete the PWA before deleting the web application.
Next action plan:--> Create new web application--> Go to manage-service applications --> project server service application
Select the new web application and create new PWA
If you want your old pwa, restore the content database and attach with another web application, provision the PWA and link Project sites.

Hi,
Can you please advise how do i delete the PWA before deleting the web application?

Next action plan:--> Create new web application--> Go to manage-service applications --> project server service application
Select the new web application and create new PWA

Go to manage-service applications --> project server service application --> Move your cursor over the previous PWA
Click on the drop down, click Delete.
You already delete the web application. So proceed to follow the steps below.
Create new web application--> Go to manage-service applications --> project server service application
Select the new web application and create new PWA

Hi,
further, as advised when i try to delete the project server service application:
to manage-service applications --> project server service application --> Move your cursor over the previous PWA
i get below error:
Service application cannot be deleted due to existing project sites!

Hello,
I got the idea. If you delete the web app, you will not get your old sites, but projects will be available in the project databases.
Leave the old service application as it is.
Create new service application for project service and associate the web application what you created recently.
provision the PWA and observe the behaviour.
Later you can plan for recovering the sites from your old content database.

The Project Web App Site path is invalid. Correct path and try again
When i try to remove teh old project server service application; i get error that Service application cannot be deleted due to existing project sites!
But i do no ind any project site when i click on manage button for that project service application. :(

Hello,
I think you are giving Invalid path at Project Web App Path.
What is the path you provided when you provision PWA?
Click on "create projecct web app site"
Provide an appropriate path at "Project Web App Path:"

HI,
I just type myProjects at the "Project Web App Path".
as i am not checking the check-box "Use project web app path as host reader"

I want to double check.
Did you create new PWA on the new web application?
What is the error in the ULS logs? Can you post the error here?

Hi,
I appreciate your patience.
I reinstalle project server, removed the default sharepoint-80 web application from CENTRALADMINISTRATION -->MANAGEWEBAPPLICATION. (selected to removed the IIS website)
Created a new web application named MyCorporationCenter.
Created a top level default sitecollection named ITProjects. That is workingfine.
Then i chose Manage Service Application. Tried to remove PROJECT SERVER SERVICE APPLICATION. No vain, it gives same error that sites exist; however there is none at the moment.
So i created a new project web app site named ITPROJECTS. it gets successfully provisioned this time.
HOWEVER, when i go to this project web app(http://mymachine/ITProjects/default.aspx); i get AN UNEXPECTED ERROR HAS OCCURRED.

Currently the Farm has two service applications for Project services.
Make the newly created service application as default, so that you will be able to resolve the "unexpected error".
Application management --> Configure service application associations --Click on the Default
Click on set as Default on the newly created service application.
Check the PWA status
Cheers. Happy troubleshooting !!! Sriram E - MSFT Enterprise Project Management- Proposed as answer by Alexander.Burton Friday, July 23, 2010 11:34 AM

Got a similar issue when creating a new Project site. I have a phantom ITProjects site, that SharePoint and Project Server 2010 thinks it exists. It got overwritten when a new database was attached. Any ideas on how to remove it?Tuesday, August 17, 2010 7:27 PM
