Unable to Insert Subprojects RRS feed

  • Question

  • I think I have a profile issue. When I try to insert a subproject, I can navigate to the desired file, select it and select Insert, the dialog box is closed and I have a blank line as though I did nothing. I had someone else log onto my computer and inserting subprojects works fine for them. This sort of problem could previously be resolved by deleting global.mpt, and allowing Project to rebuild it, but this no longer works. What part of an NT profile needs to be rebuilt to correct this problem?

  • Dean,

I suggest you try googling (or binging) "windows profile corruption". I did and found several articles on the subject including how to create a new profile. I suggest you also read the article at, http://www.tricerat.com/solution/topic/profileproblems.

    Hope this helps.

  • Rebuilding my profile solved the problem. It bothers me that there is more in my profile that affects how MS Project acts than is in Global.mpt. I liked the ability to delete a customized global.mpt when project isn't working right. The average business user doen't have access to their registry, so they can't figure out what is going wrong. I hope there is a big benefit in processing time to putting the options in your profile instead of Global.mpt.
