Maintaining a Full Text index

Question
-
Hello All,
I am working on Full Text indexes maintenance. I have couple of question, which will be helpful for me to understand the Full text indexes.
1. What is populating a Full Text index ? Is Populating different from Rebuilding a Index ?
2. What is the suggested maintenance for Full text ? Like- having a job to rebuild the FT Index every week or how to schedule ?

Hello,
1. It's similar, but a full text index is "populated" (updated) asynchron with the data, while update of index data is synchron.
2. See Populate Full-Text Indexes; with option "Change Tracking-Based Population" the Fts index is maintained automatically.
3. No, see 2.
