Still can't get my IE favorites in Edge

    Question

  • HELP - !!!!!   I live for my Favorites and I am dying without them . .

Copying them to the new correct path for Edge does not work, and Importing them from Internet Explorer Fails.

I have a bunch of Favorites from Internet Explorer including an extensive Favorites bar collection.   When I copy all my favorites to the Edge path for Favorites, none of the IE favorites appear in Edge.   I know I have the path correct because new Edge Favorites created in edge are co-mingled with my old favorites in the same folder when I browse to the location with Windows Explorer.

    C:\Users\steve.bruce\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default\Favorites

Why didn't my Favorites show up automatically when I Upgraded from Windows 7 ?

How do I get my existing Favorites to show up in edge  . . copying them to the correct path does not work . . importing them from IE fails.

  • Hi,

No need to copy favorites folder. To import the Favorites from IE, firstly, make sure these website were already imported to IE. You can check them from IE Favorites.

After that, try to import the websites for test. If failed, please post the detailed error message here.

  • Why is the answer (marked by the Moderator) marked as an answer when its only the same instructions for importing the IE Favorites that doesn't work...

I have exactly the same problem...

No errors to post... I follow the instructions for importing favorites... Nothing in my Favorites Bar... Nothing in my favorites...

If I look in the documented folder, the links seem to be there, but Microsoft Edge doesn't seem to notice that...

  • I am having the same problem.  I go to the settings for Edge and the favorites button.   I then ask it to import the favorites from Chrome and IE Explorer and the favorites are not imported.  There does not seem to be an option to import from an html file any longer or I would try that  What is going on.  I tried one suggested solution (running the windows app troubleshooter) but it said the windows store cache was damaged and it could not fix it.  I don't see how that would affect my Edge favorites anyway.

I'm thinking MS just doesn't want anyone using another browser so it is no longer playing well with Chrome.

  • I concur with all of the community members above, as I am having the same problem. I've searched for an answer on the web and got step by step directions from Microsoft and MS Community to turn on the favorites bar.  I go through the steps and make sure "view favorites bar" is on and import favorites from Internet Explorer. It tells me that the import was successful, but I don't see any favorites. All I see is some webpage with an address bar, but no favorites. When I turn favorites off again the page and address bar goes away. Once in a while I've seen a vertical list of my sites display briefly, but I can't get to stay or use it to populate a traditional favorites bar. I've followed the other directions to right click in a blank area near the top, but this doesn't get me anywhere either.

On some occasions it gives me the choice of showing the site symbols only or the symbol and the name of the site. Many people have been asking about that, but when you don't have any favorites bar, that choice is a total joke.  Browsing without bookmarks or favorites is also totally lame; many, if not most of us use the web to conduct serious business in addition to any use for personal enjoyment.  If a browser can't do provide this functionality, I can't afford to use it.

I've been trying to use Edge on and off for close to two years, from the time I converted to Windows 10 and am no better off than when I first begun. Something seems to be seriously wrong and we desperately need a fix that actually works.

That's correct...  Nothing will show up in the horizontal Favorites BAR until you put something there

There are two steps to make this work:

    • Enable the Favorites BAR (which it appears you have already done)
    • Move some favorites in the Favorites BAR

Most people use the horizontal Favorites BAR for just a few of their frequently used favorites... and do not attempt to put their entire collection of favorites there.  Instead, the "big" list of favorites remains in the vertical Favorites PANE.

So, open the vertical Favorites PANE the normal way (via the "hub" icon... the 3 little lines), expand the FOLDER called "Favorites Bar", and move a few favorites there.  This is a special folder that mirrors the horizontal Favorites BAR.  So, anything you put there will show up both in the vertical Favorites PANE and in the horizontal Favorites BAR.
