365 cutover migration RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am performing a cutover migration from exchange 2010 which has an archiving database to 365. Does the 365 migration portal migrate the archive mailboxes as well as the live mailboxes. I do have the premium 365 E3 plan?

  • Hi

You can export the archive mails to PST and import using O365 admin center import tools: https://blogs.office.com/2015/05/07/making-email-archive-migration-easier-with-the-office-365-import-service/

  • you will need to configure hybrid if you want to use the migration portal ( the only supported way), in case of cutover migration you may use 3rd party tool or simply create a powershell script to first stop moving email to archive ( change retention policy ) next export archive mailbox to pst and finally import the pst to exchange online.

  • Cutover migration is not supported archiving database to 365.The supported method to migrate archiving database is to set up Exchange 2010 server and Office 365 in hybrid mode, then move Archive mailboxes to Office 365.
