Unable to start up or reinstall windows

Question

Hey everyone I've been having some trouble with my computer lately. A little while back my comp. started to get some lag spikes (idk if it is related to the problem though). Then one day i attempted to turn on my computer, i got past everything until I reached the windows start up screen. Then i got a black screen with a pretty low resolution cursor, I let it sit like that for a while but nothing happened. I then tried to start using safe mode, still got the black screen and cursor. The same happened when i tried to reinstall windows. When i tried reinstalling it said it was loading files and once it finished it would show the start up screen and then the black screen. I'm not too amazing with computers so help would be much appreciated.Monday, July 25, 2011 2:21 AM

Hi,
If the harddrive have some broken sectors, the issue may happen.

Hi,
It may be a hardware issue your are experiencing. There are a few ways to test this hypothesis. Firstly, you could try swapping out componenect from your computer to see if it remedies the problem. This is not an option for everyone though. Secondly, if you could download na dburn a bootable CD such as Ubuntu it might allow you to boot from CD and run some hardware checks.
Hope this helps,
Cathal

Hi,
Also, you may back up all your useful files, then format the partitions and make a Clean Installation for a test.

Hmm, ok I'll try using Ubuntu to check the hardware. Also, what parts could cause the computer to act this way, the hard drive?Wednesday, July 27, 2011 10:32 PM
