Hi there Microsoft experts
I'm trying to install Suse Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP2 on to Hyper-V (2012 R2). It is listed as a supported O/S type in this technet article
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server-docs/compute/hyper-v/supported-suse-virtual-machines-on-hyper-v?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
I have tried a few different things which have not successfully booted up the Suse VM - in all cases, the VM will boot from the attached ISO to the Linux "ELILO" screen, load the kernel and initrd, and it will hang there indefinitely. This
suggests that
1) The VM boots and recognises the ISO, and the ISO can be read.
2) The kernel and initrd load in drivers for the O/S to start
3) The VM hardware or O/S drivers at some point fail to interoperate correctly, and the boot hangs
All VMs were created from SCVMM, all have been set to the Operating System as Suse Linux Enterprise Server 11 in the VM settings
- Gen 2 VM, 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 60gb Fixed vhdx and Secure Boot disabled = does not boot
- Gen 1 VM, 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 60GB fixed vhdx = does not boot
I have verified the checksum of the ISO from the SuSE download site and it matches exactly
Is there a Microsoft modified boot ISO to help with drivers and whatnot?
What VM settings have worked in the past?
The install must be SLES 11 SP2 and not a newer version
