Windows Too Large (Sometimes) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've noticed some weird behavior with some applications (i.e., Vista on-line Help, Firefox, Thunderbird, Visual C# 2005, etc). When I launch the application the window is too big for the screen, and everthing inside is twoo times too large. Then sometimes, for no apparent reason the window jumps back to a normal size including the contents, but it usually jumps back to double size soon afterward.

I don't know if this is related, but I noticed after installing Vista Beta 2 that I did not have to set the screen DPI to 120 (I have a 1920 x 1200, 23" display, with a Radeon 9550 controller). On Windows XP I had to set the display to 120 DPI so I could read comfortably). In Vista, I checked the display settings and it's set to 96 DPI. I haven't tried it at 120 DPI yet.

I only noticed this bahavior after enabling Aero, but I can't say if it's related.

Does Vista has some sort of built-in smarts for sensing the display and adjusting things automatically? Has anyone else seen similar problems?

    Cheers, Eric

  • I had some issue on the font looking weird when Vista first opens up with a default larger fonts.

I change the DPI to 96 and then change the screen display so that i can read better. I dont know about Aero i dont ahve the graphics card to test the Aero.

    but good luck man.
