SharePoint Online Public-facing Websites

    Question

  • I just wanted to confirm that SharePoint Online's public website feature is being phased out and you will not longer be able to make changes to the site after March of 2017?

  • Hello WE_User,

As per the Microsoft Official announcement on 23rd April 2015, "Currently, the SharePoint Online Public Websites feature is primarily used by a small percentage of our Office 365 customers for their own external-facing websites. Office 365 customers who currently use the SharePoint Online Public Website feature will continue to have access to the feature for a minimum of two years after the changeover date of March 9, 2015. Moving forward, these customers will have the option of subscribing to third-party solutions for public website functionality. These customers should plan to move to one of the third-party solutions within the next two years"

Hence by right your subscription will face the ending of the feature by 2017 which you have to plan accordingly.

I am not 100% sure on the technical side how this will execute from the backend but here is the official KB Article published -

    Hope this helps.
