Server-side resource leveling in PS2010? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a PM using PS2010 and Project Professional 2010.  She opened her project shedule and tasks had moved around on her. She thinks it's due to server-side resource leveling but I don't think that exists in PS2010.  Does it?  I don't see any configuration for it in Server settings.  Plus, the resource she thinks the server leveled, is not actually overallocated anywhere so even if it existed it wouldn't change anything.  So, what else from PS 2010 could have changed her schedule if this doesn't exist?

  • There's no server side leveling....possible culprits:

    1) Someone else messed with it.
    2) Edited in the browser.
    3) Automatic leveling is turned on within MS Project.

  • I didn't think there was any server-side leveling but it's a mystery machine to the average PM so I've got some convincing to do. Thanks for the answer - Walter

In addition to Andew's excellent answer, another factor that might have impacted the schedule is if team members in that project had submitted nonworking time to the functional manager for approval, and the functional manager had just approved their nonworking time.  The new nonworking time periods on the team member's calendars in the Enterprise Resource Pool could cause the schedule to shift.  Is that a possibility?  Let us know and we will try to help.
