WMI Filter to select only non portable computers (I.E. Desktops and Servers) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been tasked with setting an Internet Explorer homepage for all Desktops to an internal web site (Sharepoint).  We do not want to apply it to our traveling users, because they will complain if they get a page cannot be displayed while they are on the road.  I thought my best option would be to use a WMI filter to select only Desktops (or Desktops and Servers), but I am coming up short.  I have use the check for battery method to single out Laptops, but I don't know how to reverse that, or if it is even possible.  I have tried several iterations, but have had no luck, does anyone have any suggestions?

  • How about using one of the following WMI filters:

This is for a laptop that uses SO-Dimms:

    Select * from Win32_PhysicalMemory where FormFactor = 12

Or are the naming convention for laptops different from the naming convention for desktops?  If they are, you can try this:

SELECT * FROM Win32_ComputerSystem WHERE (Name LIKE 'ZY4%' OR Name LIKE 'ZY5%')

The above filter will be applied if the machine name starts with ZY4 or ZY5

    Hope this helps :)
