Project Overview Report RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

I have created a simple excel report using an OData feed which shows the total cost per project and also the total baseline cost per project. The projects themselves are made up of summary tasks with sub tasks within them.

The problem I have is that when the data is pulled out, the totals are incorrect because they are adding the summary tasks and the normal tasks within them thus effectively doubling the totals in the report. It is even adding the cost of the project summary task!

I really only want the value from the project summary task is there any way to filter the data in the feed to get that?

    Cheers,

    Mel

  • Mel,

It seems to me you are rolling up the information for costs and baseline from tasks or assignments. For project level report you should use the end points "Projects" and "ProjectBaselines", to retrievce the right data.

Could you please post your OData query, so that we can help?

  • Shouldn't it be ProjectCost?

  • Hi Prasanna,

Thanks for that, I was able to use the ProjectBaseLineCost field from the ProjectBaselines table which gave me the correct amount for the baseline total however I can't find an appropriate field from the Projects table which gives the total value.

    Cheers,

  • Hi Prasanna,

Yes I was looking for that but it wasn't there. I've had a look at the oData feed and it looks like that column wasn't included (by default because that was an existing feed) which is a bit strange. I've added it in and I'm getting the values I need!

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hi there,

I have 1 more question - Does anybody know how I can now work out as at the current month, how many days are outstanding for each project?

E.g. In June, how many days remaining for all projects.

    Cheers,

    Mel

  • Simplistically, you could create a custom field with formula for this, and pull it down from Odata.

If you only need it in reports, With Odata, I think it will be far more easier to do this in Excel.  If you are using Excel 2013, you could quickly create a column with formula Project Finish Date - Today () and use that in your report.

  • Hi Prasanna,

I created a new calculated field with the formula below:

    =[ProjectFinishDate] - TODAY()

    and I got this error:

Calculation error in measure 'Projects'[Current]: The value for 'ProjectFinishDate' cannot be determined. Either 'ProjectFinishDate' doesn't exist, or there is no current row for a column named 'ProjectFinishDate'.

But I've definitely got this data because I've brought back the Projects table from my data connection.

    Cheers,

  • Hi there,

I basically want to do a monthly report with columns as below with totals for each project:

    For the current month:

Project Name ¦ Task ¦ Cost Variance        ¦ Days Variance

Tot Cost Variance ¦ Tot Days Variance

So every month I will run this report to see if any of the projects have outstanding days on any tasks for the month. It needs to cater for tasks spanning across months aswell somehow.Any ideas?
