Custom field cleanup RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been looking into removing some custom fields that have ended up being baggage and clutter that no one continues to use.

Is it safe to delete those custom fields, whether values have been selected / calculated for them in existing projects (in draft, published, reporting, or archive?)

    Thanks,

  • Hi Andy,

there should be no issue in deleting any ECF, no matter if there are values in a project. I have never experienced any issues with this. But I take always an Administrative BackUp of ECFs before deleting, just in case I delete a wrong field by accident.

You will only be able to restore historical information as long as your Administrative Backup does include deleted field (only one day?) and there is a project version backuped before deleting ECF in archived database. To see them you will need to restore ECFs first and this project version afterwards. So perhaps worth an export before deletion?
