To save GUI customizations to file history RRS feed

  • Question

  • User needs to have backed up not only own files but also all customizations conducted on GUI of Windows and all used software and apps. Can this goal be achieved by adding following folders to file history?

  • Hi Anuusia,

By default, Windows File History has been configured to automatically backup data from Desktop, Home Group Folders and Windows library folders like Downloads, Pictures, Documents, Videos, etc. If a folder is added by some other application like Virtual Box, it’ll also be backed up.

As far as I know, you can simply create a new Library named Application Data and add the AppData folder in your user account folders to the new library. This will add it to the File History.

You can do the same for any other folders that you want to include in the File History list.

Hope it will be helpful to you

  • How well does it work to backup any of items stored in AppData folder to Fille History? Any major issues in the past or this moment it this regard?

  • Myself favorize to add AppData directly to set of folders covered by File History, see its configuration GUI in Settings app (advanced options) without following way-around via library. Did not found any usage for Windows libraries so far.
