Dell Drivers for OS Deployment RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have been using MDT 2012 Update 1 for windows 7 deployment with dell e6330 laptops, we are primarily a dell shop with dell docking stations to dell keyboards and mice. The problem is when after the imaging process is done and then we deploy to a user we then dock the laptop on the dell docking station and it takes a while for windows to install the dell wired keyboard, mouse, and polycom cx600 deskphone.

My question is, does anyone know if there are cab drivers for all the dell keyboards and maybe the polycom cx600 desk phone? If their is what would be the best way to have MDT install these drivers? Thanks in advance!

  • Windows will attempt to re-install drivers when you plug them into a new Port. Windows is smart enough to "cache" the driver configuration if you plug a device into the exact same port/device. THe fact that you are moving to a "new" docking station is your problem.

There are ways to "pre-cache" drivers on the machine. Easiest way is to simply connect a Polycom phone into your base station during imaging. The OS will detect and install the correct drivers. However there are ways to preinstall drivers SetupCopyOEMInf().

AS long as the driver can be installed through the *.inf (go to the device in the device manager, and install the driver using the "UPdate Driver" button). You can copy the driver locally and use the command "Dpinst.exe -preinstall" to put the driver in the local driver store.
