Outlook 2010 - adding additional mailboxes to second exchange account RRS feed

    I know that there a number of limitations to additional exchange accounts in Outlook 2010, but I haven't had a great deal of luck finding details.  Here's the problem I'm having, and I don't know if it's a configuration issue or a simple limitation:

    Outlook has two accounts configured - one points to an exchange server (2007) here on the local domain, and the second points to another exchange server (also 2007) which resides on another domain to which I am directly connected via a peer to peer VPN.  The first account works as expected, and basic features on the second (send, receive, calendar, notifications etc.) seem to work well.

    I want to add additional mailboxes on the account on my second exchange server, but when I try to add an additional mailbox, the "Add" button is grayed out, and I can't even enter mailbox information.  This all works fine on the first exchange account.

    Is this a problem/potential configuration issue or a known limitation of second exchange accounts?  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Hi!

    You can only add additional mailboxes to the profile's default\primary Exchange Account. -That's by design.

    But, you can exceed more than 3 Exchange accounts in an Outlook 2010 profile and each account will have its own set of folders. - Just like when you add an Additional Mailbox to your primary Exchange account.

    The difference between that and adding Additional Mailbox is that you cannot add more Exchange Accounts from within Outlook. You'd need to go through Control Panel | Mail | Show Profiles....

    Hi!

    You really aren't adding additional mailboxes to either account. You are adding more than one Exchange account to your Outlook 2010 profile.

    Try this:

    Go to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Mail > Click Show Profiles > Select your profile and click Properties > E-mail Accounts > Click New > E-mail Account > Select "Manually configure...", then Next > Select Micrsoft Exchange, then Next > Fill out the info, checkname, and complete account addition.

    On my one machine, I have my default Exchange 2010 account connecting to a different domain than my 2 other Exchange 2007 mailboxes on a seperate domain.

    If that's not what you are seeing, I would suggest creating a brand new Outlook 2010 profile and add all the Exchange Accounts you need to have access to. The first Exchange account added will be the default account, but you can change that by selecting another Exchange account listed and click "Set as Default" in the Account Settings dialog box.

    Jahawk,

    First, thanks for taking the time to respond.

    I understand that I can add additional Exchange accounts, though I also understand that I can only have three total under any given profile.  But Outlook has (at least back to 2003 that I can recall) always offered the ability to add additional mailboxes on the same Exchange server within a single account.  I want to be able to do that on both of my existing Exchange accounts.

    To see what I'm talking about, select the account in question, click "Change..." and then from the Exchange Server Settings dialog, click on the "More settings..." button, select the "Advanced" tab in the resulting dialog box and you'll see fields for "Open these additional mailboxes:" and an "Add..." and "Remove..." button.  On the account for the second (non-default) Exchange server, the add and remove buttons are grayed out.

    I love having the 2010's ability to have multiple Exchange accounts within a single profile, but missing this feature on the second does limit usefulness for me, and my question remains: is this a limitation of the second (and third?) Exchange accounts, or something subtle in configuration that I'm missing?

    Again, thanks for taking the time to respond.  You've confirmed what I suspected, though I'm not sure that I understand the design decision.  If I can, indeed, have more than three exchange accounts configured, it shouldn't matter too much anyway.

    I am having the same issue, i have a customer who has a PA connecting to two seperate Exchange servers.  She has two exchange accounts setup in Outlook 2010 and only the default allows her to add additional mailboxes.  She needs both her own and her boses mailboxes opn from both exchange servers, as she replys to emails on behalf of the boss.  If i add additional mailboxes to her primary and then add two other exchange accounts to the outlook profile for her and her boses email will she be able to reply on behalf of ?  Or will it just reply as her boss ?  This does seem a majour flaw in the product not having the same functionality on all exchange accounts created in the profile.

    I have the same problem here. We have thought this for a excellent way to migrate a customer without having a lot users who are temporary not able to browse their old mailbox. But now we see that adding additional mailboxes is not possible on the second exchange account within the profile. Does someone has a solution or workaround for this?
