UAG Install - UAG setup failed while installing Roles and Features RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to install the UAG Eval version on a Windows 2008 R2 VM which has 3 NIC's (1 external facing, one internal and one Management)

When running setup.exe step 4. setup fails pretty much in the beginning with "UAG setup failed while installing Roles and Features"

It does not grace me with a reason or log file or Event log entry. Anyone seen this before? Any help would be appreciated.

  • I ended up getting it installed. I previously had IIS on that box with some add-ons for URL re-writing. I un-installed IIS but the add-ons remained which caused UAG setup to fail.

I had to re-install IIS, remove the add-ons and remove IIS again. Now working. Thank for all your help.

  • These are some of the roles and features that gets installed while intalling UAG , which in turn installs TMG .

    .NET Framework
    Windows Installer
    WWSAPI
    NPAS-Policy-Server
    NPAS-RRAS-Services
    ADLDS
    RSAT-Web-Server
    NLB
    PowerShell

    Some of the prerequisites

Server is not a domain controller
If computer is domain joined the installing user is also a domain member
Windows Firewall service is not disabled
    No ISA installed (pre TMG)
Minimal network connectivity (at least one NIC with IPv4 address)
No other MSI server/client task is running
OS on current server is Win 2K8 R2
    Minimum RAM size
No other program requires the computer to reboot
No TMG installed and if installed it is of proper version
If Setup is running under a TS session, then client is connected via an IPv4 connection and not an IPv6 connection
    No UAG product installed
This is the only running instance of UAG setup
Current user has administrative access rights

Most ikely if you had AD LDS left overfrom previous failed installs you may see this issue. Looking at Windows\temp folder for thr log files will be a good start

    UAG setup logs: %ProgramData%\Microsoft\UAG\Logs
    TMG setup logs:  %windir%\Temp

  • Hmm... I have heard it said that UAG works with two NIC's only. Not one, not three but two!

Maybe try again after removing the management NIC?
