  • Welcome to the Data Protection Manager community!

System Center Data Protection Manager forum provides you an opportunity to join a community of DPM customers where you can share knowledge, get questions answered, and learn from others with IT environments similar to yours. Start by posting DPM related questions in the forum and leverage the knowledge available in the new forum community. There are a lot of feature experts from the community ready to help and ofcourse there are folks from Microsoft who design, build, test and support the product. Welcome aboard!

NOTE: This is the forum for System Center Data Protection Manager, Hyper-V and CSV clusters Backup recovery related scenarios. Posts about other DPM scenarios will be moved to other DPM forums under SC DPM category. Posts about other products will be moved or deleted to keep the search indexing accurate. For help with other System Center products please see the ‘Related links’ at the bottom of this announcement.

Before posting please make a reasonable effort to find a solution that has already been published or posted:

    ·         Search in old posts of the forum - often someone has already hit your issue and posted a solution. Sometimes it's just a difference in a keyword, but you can find a lot of answers with the correct ones. Search in Technet or your favorite search engine. Always use ‘Data Protection Manager'  then narrow to specific terms that you find in error messages, component names or logs. You might be surprised how often the answer is in the top 10 results returned.

    ·         Explore the “More information” link in the DPM’s alerts and error dialogs. Web content here is frequently updated based on hit count of various issues.

    ·         Explore DPM’s technet documentation -

    ·         Explore DPM’s Blog –

    ·         For the latest information browse our Product Page -

Still didn't find what you are looking for?

Create a post and provide enough information so you can get a useful answer quickly.  The more information you provide, the faster someone can recognize your issue and get you the best solution. Along with the problem description, please include:

    ·         The version (DPM 2007 SP1, DPM 2010)  and build number (can be found in add remove programs) of DPM software or the “I” button in the DPMUI

    ·         Describe relevant details about your environment (operating systems, SQL, Workload, accounts) and what you are attempting to accomplish.

    ·         If there is an error or problem include complete alert details, error ID details, hints from eventvwr, sections of relevant logs and/or exact error messages.

    ·         Describe what remedies you have tried already.

    ·         Check back on your post often, many are answered the same day!
