windows 7 enterprise wont remember user profile settings RRS feed

  • Question

  • two different laptops, freshly installed with windows 7, joined to the domain, running Security Essentials.  when you log in with a domain user and change ANY setting, then log out, when you log back in- your data is gone, your profile changes are gone. Even if you log in with a domain admin that is specifically added to the local administrators group, any change you make is deleted at log off like you had guest only rights.  Every time you log in you prompted with the ie8 first run wizard to choose your settings.  Help!  Hardware is standard HP laptops that ran XP fine for years with 2 GHz cpu and 1 GB ram. 60 or 120GB HD.  Running IPv4 . OS has been activated, but sometimes says problem with activation couldnt resolve DNS (as we use .net inside and .com outside).

  • Hi,

It seems that you logged on with a temporary user profile every time which was deleted when you logged off the computer. Please make sure that your account doesn't belong to the Guests Group or Domain Guests Group, you can run whoami to identify. If it is the case, you need to remove the user account from the Guests Group and from the Domain Guests group on a domain controller. You may need to contact domain administrator for help. BTW, please check in Event Viewer and locate to Windows Logs\Application to collect relevant logs.

    Best Regards
