SMART Check on HP dv6775 Laptop troubles RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

My HP dv6775 laptop runs on Vista  Home Premium edition (32 bit), and I have had it for several years without too many troubles or issues but that has now changed. The laptop has been running extremely slow and freezing up lately, and even though it says that my hard drive is less than 5 percent fragmented, I went ahead and ran defrag due to the HP automated service advisor telling me it needed to be defragmented.  The results now tell me that the SMART threshold has been exceeded and the drive might fail in the future. I have a tremendous amount of room remaining on my C: drive but little room left on my D: drive that serves as the recovery drive. I have never come across this issue in the past and wondered if anyone could make a suggestion on what I might be able to do in order to prevent this from occuring or getting worse. Any suggestions from an IT Pro would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for any advice or counsel you can provide.
