Windows XP Help & Support program not loading properly RRS feed

  • Unable to use Help & Support program for troubleshooting.

    Device Mgr shows problem with MCSTRM driver: 

    "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)

    Problem: when I click on Troubleshooter, I'm advised that Troubleshooter is not working.  Troubleshooter resides in Help & Support program. Round and round we go.

    Here is an old ‘fix’ that may still be relevant.

    Firstly, check that the service is running by opening a Run window (Windows Logo key+R), type services.msc and press Enter. Scroll down to Help and Support and double-click it. Click the Start button in the dialog box and change the Startup type to Automatic.

    Now, in the Run window (Windows Logo key+R), type regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx (note the space) and press Enter.

  • Thanks for your response, Burr Walnut.

    I followed your instructions carefully.  Unfortunately, I am still unable to expand from the Help and Support Center buttons or links to get the info.

    I will be doing a backup and then, try to do a repair install or, alternatively just leave it alone and do without Help and Support since I rarely used it in the past.

    Again, thanks.  I appreciate your willingness to attempt to assist me.
