Interprokect Task Links / Dependencies RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I wnated to check if anybpdy has the rules related to links between tasks in seperate projects in MS Project.

As an exmaple, can a sucessor task move to a date before the current start date of the project it belongs to, when it is linked to a predecessor from another project - which has the earlier start date. or can this sucessor task only move to the first date in the project ?

  • Tom,

First be advised the inter-project links are subject to corruption. Files with links must never be renamed, moved, overwritten or saved off to another location. Ideally all files in the link structure should reside in a single directory on a local drive and not be operated over a network.

That said, in your example there will be two "drivers" for the successor task, the external link (earlier date) and the project start date of the successor task's file. Whichever date is later will be the driver so in your case the successor task's file start date will prevail.

    Hope this helps.

    John
