  • Question

  • Hi All,

i have scenario that even after the software is uninstalled from ADD and REMOVE PROGRAMS from client , the resource explorer still shows the entry under Hardware Inventory in SCCM. Any ideas? i have waited for two days for that to disappear from resource explorer it didn't. Followed all the steps available over internet, but couldn't figure it out.

  • You do know that you answer less than half of my questions, which make it hard to help you. Please do and answer each item.

    1. Delete any files older that May 23 @12:22am . Restart the sms_exec service.
    2. Are files in the dataldr.box getting processed?
    3. What is exactly in the dataldr.box now?
    4. How often is hardware inventory being preformed?
    5. What exactly is happening in the dataldr.log? Aka what exactly does "rather gives shows old and new GUIDs being assigned to the devices." Mean?

  • Hi,

MIF files could contain large amounts of data and collecting this data could negatively affect the performance of your site. Enable MIF collection only when required and configure the option Maximum custom MIF file size (KB) in the hardware inventory settings.

  • "Followed all the steps available over the internet" covers an awful lot of ground.  If you were to look at this guide, for example, https://www.enhansoft.com/troubleshooting-inventory-flow/  which steps did you perform, and at what step did it fail?  If it didn't fail at ANY step; then you may need to open a call with Microsoft.

  • Hi,

In order to facilitate more forum members to help you, please share the troubleshooting steps you have tried and more details about failures here.
Have you already tried to force a full hardware inventory rather than a delta to see if that fixes the problem?
Garth's blog has helped many people on how to troubleshoot ConfigMgr hardware inventory issues, I hope it is also helpful to you:

  • Hi,

I think i have kind of resolved it. Details are as below:

    1. Basic troubleshooting as checking for dataldr.box logs on the server-side, MPhinv.log, the.mif files were never ending , they were not getting processed, just increasing the space and at one point the logs were not opening.

    2. Completely stopped hardware inventory from Default Client Settings for two hours than initiated the cycle, still the same, .mif logs were full

    3. Removed some Windows_app classes as from "Set Class" under hardware inventory,

    4. Took backup of dataldr.box and than deleted it. Restarted SMS_Executive and SMS_inventory component.

After following the above steps , atleast the .MIF files are getting processed and the dataldr.box is not piled up, with .MIF logs, i am still monitoring it, will update by tomorrow about the status of hardware inventory from monitoring tab.

  • Step #4 is a bad idea. As this will cause even more mifs and they will be bigger too, which will slow things down even more. And it is likely too late to put them back too.

What exactly does this mean "they were not getting processed,"

What exactly was happening within the dataloader.log?

How old was the oldest MIf file?

Sorted by date/time, how old are your oldest 20 mif files? Really just the 1st and 20th data/time is all that is needed.

  • #What exactly does this mean "they were not getting processed,"

insider dataldr.box folder <SCCMInstallDR>inboxes\auth\dataldr.box (.MIF) files were staying as is , since two weeks. and the size of dataldr.box is about 4,xx,xxx KB

#What exactly was happening within the dataloader.log?

It doesn't not show any error, rather gives shows old and new GUIDs being assigned to the devices.

#How old was the oldest MIf file?

there are more than 20 files though and the oldest one is from 10th May 2020.

What's ur suggestion to make the hardware inventory to be current, atleast five days.

I is unclear from your reply as to what is going on.

Are files within the dataldr.box getting removed?

What is the 20th oldest file date and time?

You said that you removed all the files, so EXACTLY what is there now?

What exactly does "rather gives shows old and new GUIDs being assigned to the devices." mean?

How Often are you preforming HW inventory?

  • The files are getting removed form dataldr.box folder , and this started happening , once i performed, the above 4 stops from earlier comments.

Also, it's simple , if i try to create a collection in SCCM based on installed application, the collection gets created and devices are collected , but if check the device manually by logging in to it , the application is not there, which states that hardware inventory is not working.

    20th file date and time 23 May 2020 / 12:22 a.m

Hence , if u have an suggestion , would be really appreciated.

  • So what you are saying is that every thing is fine now.

However i would never recommend having hw inventory happen at a fixed time, instead use a simple daily schedule
