Exchange 2010 Retention Policy - Never Delete RRS feed

  • Question

  • I try to create a retention policy to leave the inbox alone, never to delete anything, but it's not working.  I have a retention tag name "inbox forever" for the inbox folder with the age limit set to "disable this tag".  I create a retention policy and add the "inbox forever" to the policy, and assign this retention policy to a mailbox.  When I right-click on the inbox folder and look at the retention policy, it have the correct policy, but when I open an email, there's a note with the follow text: "This item will expire in 0 days. To keep this item longer, apply a different Retention Policy."

My question is how do you create a retention policy/tag to keep items in the inbox forever?

  • Hi,

If you set "disable this tag" on retention tag this tag will not working anymore.

I would suggest you create a tag for moving all the items to an Archive. All the items could be kept in Archive forever.

Why would you need Retention Policy if you don't want to delete the Mails from Inbox

Did you restarted the MSExchangeMailboxAssistants service?
