Exchange 2013 um fax with Lync integrated RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

We are planning to deploy Exchange Um and integrate this with our Lync enterprise Voice users. We are also looking at replacing some older fax solutions. When I started to read the Exchange UM documentation I noticed this:

"Sending and receiving faxes using T.38 or G.711 isn't supported in an environment where Unified Messaging and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 or Microsoft Lync Server are integrated. "

Does this mean that if we integrate Exchange and Lync we will not be able to configure FAX in Exchange UM?

  • Yes, but that fax server solution can integrate with Exchange.  The experience as far as the user is concerned wouldn't be drastically different.

  • It's not supported, but that doesn't mean you can't have a decent fax server solution that delivers to your email with Lync.  How is Lync connected to the PSTN, do you have an SBC or IP gateway?

  • We have a sbc from audiocodes. So if I understand you correct, if are using um for Voice mail together with lync. Even if we find a faxserver solution, the setup will not be supported?

  • Right, but to be clear, there are other products for fax that work with AudioCodes/Exchange (faxcore.com) and we've implemented fax server solutions with Lync and Exchange UM many times, so it's not that you can't have the functionality, you'd just use another method to get it.

  • Ok!

so to get a supported solution, we keep Lync and exchange UM as is and then focus on implementing a fax server solution outside Exchange UM?
