Alert doesn't send email in specific site collection RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have main site collection "/" in my web application with the port 80. Suddenly i (and the users) couldn't receive alters email from that site collection.

I deleted and re created the alerts, I receive the Alert Setup confirmation email, bit i don't receive the alerts email when the action happens.

I checked the SP email and exchange setting and it seems fine. i have no problem with the outgoing emails because i recieve the alert setup notification email as i said.

The weird thing is that in another site collection (My Site), i receive the alert emails with no problem!  my problem, only with the main site collection "/".

After googling around, I implemented all the steps that were recommended to solve this problem, these are the steps

1-       I stopped the "Windows SharePoint Services Timer" service

    2-       stsadm -o getproperty -propertyname alerts-enabled –url http://portal

    3-       stsadm -o getproperty -propertyname job-immediate-alerts –url  http://portal

4-       stsadm -o setproperty -propertyname alerts-enabled -propertyvalue false –url http://portal

    5-       stsadm -o setproperty -propertyname job-immediate-alerts -url http:// portal -propertyvalue "every 2 minutes between 0 and 59"

6-       stsadm -o setproperty -propertyname alerts-enabled -propertyvalue true -url http://portal

    7-       stsadm -o updatealerttemplates -url http://portal -f "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\XML\alerttemplates.xml" -LCID 1025

8-       I did all steps in the link http://blogospear.blogspot.com/2011/03/sharepoint-2007-alerts.html

    9-       and the link http://vspug.com/tigirry/2009/12/17/sharepoint-2007-alerts-not-working/

10-   After all these steps I Restart  the "Windows SharePoint Services Timer" service And also I restart the IIS

11-   I restart all farm servers

    12-   Run SharePoint Configuration Wizard

And still not able to make it work.

please advise me how to solve this problem

  • Here you have a blog that helps you to troubleshoot alert issues http://blogs.technet.com/b/steve_chen/archive/2009/11/20/alerts-in-sharepoint-troubleshooting-moss-wss.aspx Alerts in SharePoint (Troubleshooting MOSS/WSS).

Also do you have a root site collection? The problem is present for all the users?

  • Hi,

Check if all IPs of your all WFE servers are added to the allow relay list of your SMTP server

  • Abdullah,

It seems that you are using the threaded form of the forums which means that when you look at the thread here you see which of your replies is a reply to which post.

Many of us - and probably the majority - don't use the threaded form of the forums but instead see every post in a particular thread (i.e. replies to a single subject) in date order.

That means that if you reply to two people we need to know which person you are replying to. At the least you should in your posts give the name of the person whose post you are replying to (and better an extract of his text).

This problem doesn't arise if only one person has replied to you as then we know that your reply is to his post, but here there is a choice of two.

Another problem is that because you reply to each person separately you are using two different posts to do so. One post (with replies to both people [with their names]) would have been enough here.

Note to people wondering: Abdullah  added the names to both posts 18 mins after I posted this.
