Microsoft RODC downtime RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey all,

We have 2 RODC's in our office. We need to bring one of the RODC (AD1) down with minimal downtime. Both are virtual machines.

The problem is that we have integrated many of the apps with one the RODC(AD1) which we need to bring down. i.e hardcoded AD1's ip address in the apps.

To minimise the downtime, this is the solution which i was proposing.

    1. Power OFF AD1 vm.
    2. Take a snapshot of the AD1 after its powered OFF.
    3. Power ON the AD1 back.
    4. Export the snapshot onto a file.
    5. Copy the exported snapshot onto other host.
    6. Create a new VM from that snapshot, but don't start it yet.
    7. Stop the running AD1.
    8. Assign its IP(AD1) to the newly created VM and power it ON.

NOTE: The VM is a RODC. There would be delta changes. But since its an RODC, i think this solution is workable.

Can someone please let me know if this process is absolutely flawed and cannot be done.
