no sound XP sp3 no volume icon on task bar RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have gone around and around with the help menu with this no sound and no sound icon on the task bar.

On two different occassions I have been told to contact Microsoft about getting a copy of the file Sndvol32.exe.  I now have been on the microsoft website for about an hour and again I seem to go around and around and always end out at the same place with nothing gained for my time.

Can someone help me with this problem.   I have also tried three sound cards on the PCI but none of those are even seen by the "found new hardware" window.  I just do not know where to turn to.  Unfortunately I do not have a restore disc for this computer a Pavilion 751N with XP pro with SOP 3 installed.

  • First, look in your device manager and see if it has found the card or not.

If it has not found it, you should be able to find a driver for at least one of your three cards if you search the Internet.

Try http://driverguide.com and make sure you select the correct OS.

Read the reviews for the driver before you download and install it.
