Issues with Proclarity after applying 6.3.222 hotfix RRS feed

  • Question

  • HI

Our business users use Proclarity 6.3 for their analysis needs - the PAS IIS hosted on MS Windows Server 2003 R2 (3.75 GB of RAM) and the PAS DB hosted on another server.

Recently, the users have had trouble saving to 'My View', accessing views saved to 'My View', PAS hanging on running routine queries etc.

    We tried the following:

    1. Ran the Activity Monitor on the PAS DB Server and monitored the locked queries / requests - killing the Suspended tasks helped - users would be able to access their views again before the cycle would repeat again. On investigating, we realized that even usual queries (that are not very heavy) seemed to cause the lock on the request.

    2. We then edited the IIS Metabase in the PAS IIS Box - we set AspMaxRequestEntityAllowed from 200MB to 1GB - this too hasn't helped the situation in any way.

The problems seemed to coincide with our applying the 6.3.2222 hotfix on the Live PAS server. Also, PAS on the Dev server (without 6.3.2222 applied) runs perfectly fine - leading us to suspect that the hotfix is the culprit.

This is a high priority issue at our end and any help would be highly appreciated!

    Thanks!

  • HI

Increasing the value of AspMaxRequestEntityAllowed from 200MB to 1GB did work eventually - a restart of IIS was required even though the "Enable Direct Metabase Edit" option was checked.

  • Sean,

Here is a more detailed description of the issues we have been facing 2 PAS issues since SP3 install.

    1.       All Users unable to view reports under reports under beefing book and My Views. The page displays “ Please wait. Loading book contents” or “Please wait. Loading My Views”.  Users get “Unspecified error” when PAS is hanging.

SQL Server Activity monitor shows a suspended process during this time and there is a WAIT request on MDStores table.

ProClarity Event viewer has the below error messages:

    ERROR:

    Event Type:           Error

    Event Source:       ProClarity Server

    Event Category:    None

     - Error getting book elements

    WARNING:

    OleError:    (80004005)

To fix this issue, we have been restarting the PAS Server and today we just restarted the under lying SQL service and it helped.

    2.       All Users unable to add reports to My View. This issue has not been reported since AspMaxRequestEntityAllowed was changed.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

  • Thanks Chintra for the detailed info.  Of particular interest on the 2nd issue is the OLE 80004005 error and suspended process in SQL.  To pursue this further what you'll want to do is monitor 'blocked processes' on the SQL server to see if there are locks on the ProClarity tables that aren't being released. Opening a support case would be a good idea if you're seeing indefinate locks on SQL tables..

  • Thanks Sean. Earlier we had increased AspMaxEntityRequestAllowed to only 1 MB and now we increased it to 1GB. After doing this on Friday we faced a different issue today.

When we tried accessing reports using Web Standard, the page refused to load and after a long time it gave a message – “Your request could not be complete. Please try the following. Click the back button again.”

We didn’t notice any suspended process in SQL event viewer and no OLE Error in ProClarity event viewer. Few Warning messages that we noticed in ProClarity event viewer was “The connection to the database failed.:    (80180014).”

But, the same page opened successfully using Web Professional.

Restarting the IIS brought things to normal. But, we are not sure the reason behind it. Could this be an issue due Kerberos?

We also found below log in the event viewer for an user:

  • Hi,

One of the users has reported an error - "An error occured in the application: Access violation at address 03D56028 in module 'PVCL7.bpl'. Read of address 000000004". This error occured when he tried to open a report from Web Professional.

I found the same issue being discussed in this thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/proclarity/thread/48932348-cc5d-4ad9-ac04-d0a0a80616e5 .

We have latest service pack 3 installed and the web professional component has been made required to download. This would mean all the users are on the latest SP when accessing the web professional?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I was wondering if this is related to the above PAS issue?

    Many Thanks, Chitra
