DPM - Recovery NTFS Permissions Only? RRS feed

  • Question

  • As our company is outsourcing their IT functions we had an incident this week where they removed ALL NTFS permissions from a high-level folder (including Control and System permissions) then placed one sole user as having Full Control at that level. This resulted in no one with the ability to browse the directory tree.

Being new to DPM I ask - Is there a way in DPM to restore just NTFS permissions?  Maybe selecting a restore and skipping existing files would work?

  • Hello,

Visibly, you can't recover only ntfs ACLs in DPM...
However, you can restore the files to different location with ntfs permissions of recovery point then backup ntfs acls and finaly restore them in the original location like below :

    - recover the files to alternate location

    - then you need SubInACL:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=23510

    - backup ntfs permissions in the alternate location :
    subinacl.exe /noverbose /output=ntfs_permis_disk_D.txt /subdirectories D:\*.*

-finaly, restore ntfs permissions in the server in question :
    subinacl.exe /playfile ntfs_permis_disk_D.txt

I hope this answer help you!

    Best regards,
