Display adapter problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

My computer (Lenovo 3000 Y410 7757 89Q notebook) crashed last week due to overheating. I could boot it after that though. But on restarting, it showed some display problems. The brightness control was gone and so were the sleep and hibernate options. They were not available in any way on the computer. Also the video quality deteriorated.

I formatted my system and reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate. And, installed the drivers from lenovo website. But the problem persisted. After a lot of searching, I discovered that the display Adapter is not detecting the Chip or graphics memory. It says

    Chip type <unavailable>

    DAC type <unavailable>

    Adapter string <unavailable>

    Bios information <unavailable>

    Total Available Graphics Memory <unavailable>

    Dedicated video memory n/a

    System video memory n/a

    Shared system memory n/a

I used the Intel Chip Identification Utility to identify my chipset and it is Intel PM965 chipset. But I cannot find any drivers for that. The drivers from lenovo website don't seem to have done a good enough job. They were meant for older versions of Windows anyways. They do get installed but have not helped. Please, help me. I don't think there is any hardware problem.
