  • Hi Lyle.

Which is the faulting update? If Windows Update is trying to install a device driver, you can ignore it and manually install it after downloading from the device's manufacturer web site: this error message usually comes when you are trying to update driver from Windows update and installing a driver that is already installed on your computer or a driver that has a lower compatibility rating than one you already have installed.
If that issue does not involve a device driver, you can use the Windows Update Automated Troubleshooter; also refer to the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 10164.

    Bye.

    3. Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) by taking following these steps:

3.1 Open an administrative Command Prompt window.

3.2 Type following command and then press Enter.

               sfc /scannow

3.3  After the scan is finished, try to install updates again.

    4. Reset the Windows Update Components, please refer the following link.

If all methods can't work, please help us collect the cbs.log (%SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) , windowsupdate.log (%windir%\windowsupdate.log) , CheckSUR.log (%SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log), post them onto OneDrive and share the link here, which can help us do more research.

Note: If you have any concern about this, please send the logs to tnmff@microsoft.com through email, but it may cause reply delay.
